Alexander Bürgin has been awarded Jean Monnet Chair for the second time
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alexander Bürgin, Head of European Union Reasearch and Application Center (EURAC) and Lecturer at the department of Political Science and International Relations, has been awarded a Jean Monnet Chair in EU Environmental and Climate Policy by the European Commission. This year, 240 researcher from all over the world will be supported by European Commission, among them there are 8 researcher from Turkey. Only two of them has been awarded by a chair. Dr. Bürgin has already been Jean Monnet Chair between 2015 and 2018.
A Jean Monnet Chair is a title assigned to university professors with a specialisation in European Union studies, including financial support for three years. In the academic community, the Jean Monnet Chair is recognised as a sign of excellence.
The Jean Monnet Chairs are part of the European Commission Jean Monnet Programme, named after Jean Monnet, one of the founding fathers of the European integration project. The programme aims at raising the knowledge of European integration in undergraduate and post graduate studies in higher education institutions worldwide.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bürgin’s Jean Monnet Chair project, endowed with 50.000 Euro, aims at promoting environmental and climate change awareness among students of Izmir University of Economics while deepening their knowledge on the performance of the EU, with a focus on the EU-Turkey cooperation. Students from different departments as well as high school students will be involved.
